Advisory Council

The Colorado State Science Fair, Inc. Advisory Council is comprised of all Board of Directors members, the Regional Fair Directors and their assistants, and many other dedicated individuals who have volunteered to be an integral part of the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair each year. The Advisory Council members work on one or more of the many working committees, give input into the many aspects of the science fair and volunteer during the CSEF. Anyone interested in furthering the cause of the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair may join the Advisory Council by filling out the Advisory Council Membership Form. Current Advisory Council members may update their contact information and committee memberships via the Advisory Council Membership Update Form. The Advisory Council meets three times during the year (November, January, and April) to plan for and evaluate the CSEF.

Advisory Council members who incur expenses on behalf of the CSEF and wish to donate those costs, are encouraged to submit a Sponsor In-Kind Form so they can be recognized for their generosity. Members who incure expenses and wish to be reimbursed, must submit an Expense Reimbursement Form along with all receipts associated with those expenses.

The Advisory Council working committess include:

Alumni - The focus of this committee is to create ways in which CSEF alumni can continnue to be active in the CSEF each year by keeping in contact with graduated seniors. Chair: Carol Morrow

Awards Ceremony - The focus of this committee is the running of the Awards Ceremony and winner recognition. Chair: Courtney Butler

Display & Safety - The focus of this committee is to oversee the volunteers who check the students' projects for display and safety rules compliance during setup of the CSEF. Chair: Dan Van Gorp

Grand Awards Judging - The focus of the committee is to coordinate the recruitment and category assignments of the grand awards judges. The committee also oversees the work of the judges during the science fair and collects and reports the results to the Awards Ceremony committee. Individuals interested in being a Grand Awards Judge should complete the Judges Information Form and submit it to CSEF. Chair: Gina Holland

Photography - The focus of this committee is to coordinate the volunteers who take the official photos of Finalists at their projects and the photos of the winners at the Awards Ceremony. This committee is also responsible for sending a copy of the official photos to the Finalists, their Regional Fair Director, and the CSEF Director. Chair: Amy Weich

Publicity - The focus of this committee is to maintain a current list of media contacts around the state of Colorado and to send out press releases to these contats as deemed appropriate to gain exposure for CSEF. This committee is also responsible for inviting VIPs and media contacts to the CSEF for interaction with the Finalists. Chair: Linda Lung

Registration - The focus of this committee is to maintain and prepare the Finalist registration materials for SRC review and check-in at the CSEF. Chair: Courtney Butler

Room Setup - The focus of this committee is to design the layout of the exhibit hall space, taking into account electrical, floor, and table space requirements. This committee is also responsible for coordinating with the Lory Student Center for room and material needs and to coordinate the exhibit space setup during CSEF. Chair: Jim Sites

Scholarships - This committee is comprised of representatives from the colleges, universities, and organizations providing scholarship money to Finalists through the CSEF. Members are responsible for updating the scholarship descriptions each year and advising their institutions of any changes made by CSEF that might affect the number or type of scholarships given. Chair: David Holm

Scientific Review - The focus of this committee is to review Finalist paperwork for compliance with the Intel ISEF rules and guidelines for student scientific research. The SRC must be comprised of a biomedical scientist (PhD, MD, DVM, DDS, or DO), an educator, and at least on other person. To become a member of the CSEF SRC team, a Membership Form must be completed and submitted along with a recomendation from a Board of Directors member. Chair: Doug Steward

Special Awards - The focus of this committee is to solicit organizations to give special awards to Finalists based on criteria that the organization sets. This committee is also responsible for overseeing the special award judging process during the CSEF and report the results to the Awards Ceremony committee. Chair: Sam Bartlett

Student Activities - The focus of this committee is to arrange for the pizza party on Saturday, the guest speaker on Friday, and the social on Thursday of the CSEF. Chair: Lucy Adams

Tours - The focus of this committee is to arrange for tours and presentations of local/university science labs for the Finalists to attend on Friday of the CSEF. Chair: Katie Montgomery

Volunteer Coordination - The focus of this committee is to arrange for volunteers to help with photography, display & safety, registration, room setup, door monitoring, and the awards ceremony. This committee is also responsible for directing volunteers at the CSEF. Chair: Courtney Bulter
